CURRICULUM VITAE
BUFFERING VOLUME 3
My name is Quaishawn Whitlock. I am an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and business owner born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. My creative practice is rooted in storytelling, cultural memory, and printmaking as both a visual language and a tool for research and discovery. The process-driven nature of printmaking lends itself to experimentation and accessibility—qualities that I extend into my curatorial and installation-based work. By using these frameworks, I explore the past, interrogate the present, and question the trajectories shaping our future.
In this installation of work, titled “Buffering: Volume 3,” is a series of original mixed media pieces and immersive installations that foreground narratives often omitted from dominant cultural spotlights. This work uses silhouettes—abstracted and illustrative—as a central visual device. The silhouettes are scaled and textured to create large, immersive points of engagement that encourage public interaction and reflection. In doing so, I create spaces where viewers can insert themselves into the story, modify its meaning, and pass it on, expanding the act of storytelling beyond a single voice.
The concept of Buffering acts as a metaphor for the philosophical and psychological shaping of Black identity in a world where identities, communities, and people remain under constant attack. This project is both a visual meditation and a call to action: a way of examining how peer-to-peer storytelling can serve as a counter-archive, resisting erasure and fostering collective agency.
